Sonya Gupta is a first-year graduate student (G1) at Harvard University in the Regional Studies - Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia (REECA) program. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a double degree (in Biological Sciences and Polish, Russian, & Eastern European Studies) and a minor in sociology. As a self-taught GIS user, Sonya has spent the last few years using GIS to improve health equity and teaching GIS to community members and students to better understand health disparities. Sonya's research interests lie in investigating cross-cultural approaches to medicine and societal factors influencing health. Her career goal is to be a physician who improves health equity and pursues solutions to global health issues.
